Best Performance

Mexico qualified for their 8th consecutive World Cup by finishing in second spot in qualifying level on points with top side Canada. In the previous 7 tournaments, Mexico have been knocked out at the Round of 16 stage, so this time will be hoping to go one further, though it may be a tall ask considering they have never gone past this stage of the tournament when not hosting it. Last summer, Mexico failed to win their 12th CONCACAF Gold Cup, losing out to USA in extra time in the final, and its apparent that their main weakness will be up front in this upcoming tournament. They averaged just 1.2 goals scored per game in qualification, and their top scorer also ended with just 3 goals.

Player to Watch

When fit, Jimenez is considered a lethal striker in the Premier League, and is likely to be the main goalscoring threat for Mexico this winter. At the age of 31, he is already in the top 10 all time goalscorers for his country and was also top scorer in qualifying, though he only needed 3 in 9 goals to reach that milestone.
