Best Performance

Having featured in 7 of the 9 World Cups between 1982 and 2014, Cameroon failed to qualify for Russia 4 years ago, but they are back thanks to a last gasp strike in extra time against Algeria that saw them progress on away goals. They had looked like losing, having conceded in the 118th minute before Lyon striker Toko-Ekambi scored at the death. In all their appearances at the World Cup, Cameroon have only progressed out of the group stages once back at Italia 90 when they reached the Quarter Finals, but were eventually beaten by England in extra time. Cameroon have lost their last 7 consecutive matches at the World Cup, a record they will be gunning to overhaul. They also hosted the African Cup of Nations earlier this year where they finished 3rd.

Player to Watch

33 year old strike Eric Choupo-Moting has won the league in his last 4 seasons, twice with Paris Saint Germain, and then most recently twice with Bayern Munich. Despite representing Germany at youth level, Choupo-Moting made his debut for Cameroon twelve years ago, and has represented his nation 68 times already. He will be going into this tournament as the second most capped player in the squad after striker Vincent Aboubakar, and their partnership will be crucial for Cameroon to make it out of their tough group.
