Previously known as the Al Rayyan Stadium and labeled as the “gateway to the desert”, the stadium was officially opened and hosted the Amir Cup Final on 18^th December 2020, exactly two years before the World Cup final and also became one of the two stadiums used in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021. Much like most of the other stadiums, after the World Cup, the capacity is due to be downsized by around half, with those extra seats due to be donated to football projects around the world.
