Best Performance

After facing a bit of a shaky start to their qualification campaign, Uruguay ended up taking third spot in the South American qualifiers, largely thanks to winning their final 4 matches. They have qualified for their fourth successive tournament and their 14th in history, where they will be looking to lift the trophy for the first time since 1950. Uruguay have been knocked out at the Quarter Final stage in their last 3 major tournaments, but one concern would be that their side has started to age, with 5 of the top 6 most capped players ever for the country still playing.

Player to Watch

Though Uruguay boast a host of talent in their side, a lot of the superstar players such as Cavani, Suarez and Godin are in their mid thirties, and a lot of eyes will be on the next generation of players coming through. One such player is Darwin Nunez, who moved from Benfica to Liverpool in the summer for a fee of up to 85 million pounds. Still early days, but the striker appears to have adapted well to the Premier League.
